Action statement urges governments to choose a new future for cardiovascular health

22 November 2022

The Health Policy Partnership (HPP) has published a new action statement on cardiovascular disease (CVD): Governments must choose a new future for cardiovascular health. It consolidates key findings from our Thought Leadership Forum on Cardiovascular Disease project.

The action statement features two core recommendations for governments:

  • Ensure longer and healthier lives for citizens by establishing comprehensive national cardiovascular health plans to reduce CVD-related deaths, illness and disability by one third by 2030, in line with SDG target
  • Reduce inequalities and boost social and economic participation

The action statement provides the CVD community with tangible actions for decision-makers and examples of plans and strategies from around the world that have successfully taken such actions. These actions include: adequately equipping and incentivising community and outpatient services, investing in digital technology and data collection, and reversing the decline in investment in CVD clinical research and innovation.

The action statement is endorsed by the European Heart Network, Global Heart Hub, International Federation of Ageing, Heart Rhythm Alliance, Amgen, Bayer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Novartis and Novo Nordisk.
