The Health Policy Partnership (HPP) has supported the development of a new policy report that outlines the importance of immunisation for people living with non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Published ahead of the fourth high-level meeting on NCDs at the United Nations General Assembly in September, the report was developed in partnership with the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA), with insights from experts. It outlines policy recommendations for governments and decision-makers to optimise the implementation of adult immunisation programmes, particularly for the people most at risk.
People with NCDs such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes are more vulnerable to severe illness, hospitalisation and death from common respiratory infections. Yet uptake of relevant immunisations remains low in this group – an issue that must be addressed to protect both individual and population health.
Alongside the report, HPP has produced a series of infographics focusing on the four most common NCD groups, highlighting how improving immunisation uptake could significantly reduce the burden of illness and help strengthen health systems.
These resources aim to support countries in better preparing for the growing challenges posed by ageing populations and rising rates of chronic disease, while also delivering on commitments to equitable, preventive care.
