World Health Assembly resolution on skin diseases

Share

Stakeholders are driving advocacy efforts to support the implementation of the resolution.

Context

Skin diseases affect billions of people worldwide, but until recently they have been consistently under-recognised, under-prioritised and under-resourced.

In 2025, the World Health Assembly passed the first ever resolution on skin diseases. The resolution outlined the challenges and policy actions that health systems should take to improve quality of life and outcomes for people with skin diseases.

While the resolution was an important step towards better care for people with skin diseases, its success relies on multi-disciplinary collaboration and effective implementation at the country level.

With this in mind, the World Skin Health Coalition, which was instrumental in achieving the resolution through its campaigning, approached HPP to develop advocacy resources to support its members in driving implementation. The resources highlight the importance of addressing skin diseases, and provide advocacy-ready messages, tools and guidance for patient organisations, healthcare professionals and industry partners to use in their policy engagement activities.

What we’ve achieved

HPP worked with the World Skin Health Coalition and its multidisciplinary working group to develop a set of advocacy resources. The resources are being used by coalition members to advocate for effective implementation of the resolution in their own countries.

We developed evidence-based key messages tailored to the coalition’s three core constituency groups: healthcare professionals, patient organisations and industry partners. And we co-created an infographic and a toolkit with guidance and templates to support members in their advocacy and policy engagement around the resolution’s implementation.

The resources were launched at a webinar attended by 70 people from the coalition’s different constituency groups.

Project funding

These advocacy tools were initiated and funded by the World Skin Health Coalition, which held editorial control of all project outputs.
