The Health Policy Partnership (HPP) has led on the authorship of two recent peer-reviewed articles in prestigious cancer journals.

The European Journal of Cancer has published a position paper from the European CanCer Organisation (ECCO), entitled Identifying critical steps towards improved access to innovation in cancer care: a European CanCer Organisation position paper. HPP Managing Director Suzanne Wait was a co-author of the paper, which is available at https://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.ejca.2017.04.014.

The paper calls for greater innovation in cancer care, highlighting that an innovation’s value depends of patient outcomes, quality of life and system costs. It recommends a whole-system, whole-patient approach. Specific recommendations include a focus on patient-centred care, and investment in real-world data to guide interventions.

Meanwhile, the policy report from All.Can – a multi-stakeholder project for which HPP acts as secretariat – has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Cancer Policy. The report, entitled Towards sustainable cancer care: Reducing inefficiencies, improving outcomes—A policy report from the All.Can initiative, is currently in press and is already available online at https://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jcpo.2017.05.004. The report was authored by members of the All.Can initiative, alongside Suzanne Wait and former HPP Researcher Daniel Han.

The original All.Can report was published in January 2017. It explores how resource-stretched systems can provide the best possible outcomes for cancer patients, by improving efficiency and reducing waste in cancer care.
